HEALING THE ROOTS FOUNDATION
Programs & Services
Strengthening the roots that help children grow, connect, and thrive.
We help children strengthen their emotional roots through learning and meaningful connection. At the heart of our programs is Nina’s Coping Toolbox E-Learning Curriculum, which teaches CASEL-aligned social-emotional learning (SEL) alongside vital coping tools that support children in building resilience, confidence, and calm.

Through simple quiet spaces, hands-on coping activities, and developmentally appropriate lessons, our programs nurture emotional wellness and growth. Each lesson, activity, and space is designed to be simple, accessible, and rooted in care, supporting children as they develop self-awareness, self-regulation, and healthy connections.

Because small changes can grow strong roots, we intentionally create resources that are easy to use, inclusive, and grounded in compassion. These resources are provided at no cost to qualifying partners with financial need through Healing the Roots Foundation.

What is SEL?
Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), as defined by the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), is the process of developing essential life skills, including self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. These skills help children succeed in school, build healthy relationships, and thrive in life.

Simple Quiet Spaces
We help learning environments and community programs create Simple Quiet Spaces that support calm and emotional regulation. While we cannot yet fund full setups, we share practical ideas and low-cost solutions to help caring adults design peaceful areas using everyday materials that nurture children’s well-being. We also provide starter items such as pillows and comfort materials that help make each space warm, welcoming, and restorative.

Nina’s Coping Toolbox E-Learning (SEL) Curriculum
We partner with parents, educators, children’s homes, and community organizations, including those with financial need, to bring Nina’s Coping Toolbox E-Learning Curriculum, a CASEL-aligned program, to children across North Carolina and beyond.

Our 10-week curriculum integrates healthy coping tools, mindfulness practices, and emotional skill-building to support children in developing emotional strength and resilience.

Through ready-to-learn online lessons, videos, and engaging activities, students are empowered to manage their emotions, build confidence, and grow in self-awareness, self-regulation, social awareness, and positive relationships, supporting their overall emotional well-being.

Coping Skills in Action
Children learn vital coping tools from Nina’s Coping Toolbox that they can practice every day at school or at home. These include mindful breathing, positive affirmations, yoga stretches, journaling, gratitude, and relaxation techniques.

Each activity is simple to introduce in classrooms, after-school programs, or at home. By learning these tools early, children build lifelong habits that support emotional regulation, resilience, and confidence.
