HEALING THE ROOTS FOUNDATION

Services

Strengthening the roots that help children grow, connect, and thrive.

We help children strengthen their emotional roots through learning and meaningful connection. At the heart of our programs is Nina’s Coping Toolbox E-Learning Curriculum, which teaches social-emotional learning (SEL) and vital coping tools that help children build resilience, confidence, and calm.

Along with simple quiet spaces and hands-on coping activities, our programs nurture emotional wellness and growth. Each lesson, activity, and space is designed to be simple, accessible, and rooted in care. Because small changes can grow strong roots, we make each resource easy to use and grounded in compassion.

These resources are provided at no cost to qualifying partners with financial need through Healing the Roots Foundation.

What is SEL?

Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), as defined by the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL), is the process of developing essential life skills, including self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. These skills help children succeed in school, build healthy relationships, and thrive in life.

Simple Quiet Spaces

We help learning environments and community programs create Simple Quiet Spaces that support calm and emotional regulation. While we cannot yet fund full setups, we share practical ideas and low-cost solutions to help caring adults design peaceful areas using everyday materials that nurture children’s well-being. We also provide starter items such as pillows and comfort materials that help make each space warm, welcoming, and restorative.

Nina’s Coping Toolbox E-Learning (SEL) Curriculum

We partner with parents, educators, children’s homes, and community organizations, including those with financial need, to bring Nina’s Coping Toolbox E-Learning Curriculum to children across North Carolina and beyond.

Our 10-week curriculum teaches practical coping tools that help children develop emotional strength, mindfulness, and resilience.

This online platform offers ready-to-learn lessons, videos, and activities that empower students to manage their emotions, build confidence, and grow in self-awareness, self-regulation, and connection.

Coping Skills in Action

Children learn vital coping tools from Nina’s Coping Toolbox that they can practice every day at school or at home. These include mindful breathing, positive affirmations, yoga stretches, journaling, gratitude, and relaxation techniques.

Each activity is simple to introduce in classrooms, after-school programs, or at home. By learning these tools early, children build lifelong habits that support emotional regulation, resilience, and confidence.
